To the Opera for Craig's Birthday
October 1, 2005
I had a great birthday! The weather had cleared up and the sun was shining and it was considerably warmer. We checked out of our hostel early in the morning and we splurged a little on a pension where we had a private room and lots of space. Tina went around shopping during the day and I read my book and did some laundry by hand in the room just relaxing. In the evening we went to the William Tell opera. We only paid 2 euro each which comes to a total of just under $5. We had to stand the entire time, but they had a railing to lean on while standing. The show started at 6:30 and ended at 10:30 with 3 fifteen minute intermissions. It was interesting to see. The costumes and the stage were great. The symphony orchestra was incredible to hear and the singing was good. I don't really like musicals but to hear the orchestra was amazing. Its not something I would want to do very often, but I really enjoyed doing it. Something completely different to do. We may go to another opera when we are in Prague. We heard you can go for $4 each and sit down.
After the opera we walked back to our pension where Tina had to change into to her sneakers. After walking a mile to the show and a mile back she got two huge blood blisters on the bottom of her feet. This is the first time she has worn heels in the seven months of traveling. I guess her feet are not used to her being a girly girl anymore. She also changed into jeans and we walked, Tina limped, to a jazz club a mile up the street. The jazz club didn't have a band playing and it took a half hour for us to get a drink. We had our one drink and decided to call it a night.
